It was a star-studded event at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF), for the launch of renowned Parisian designer, Jean Paul Gaultier’s exclusive collection for Target Australia.
The anticipated show opened with international supermodel, Nicole Trunfio, taking to the runway in a risqué bra, leather jacket and 00’s-esque denim and tulle bubble skirt; a look that is a far cry from Target’s usual professional demure.
However, the man of the hour was missing in action due to illness, which also prevented him from officially launching the collection at Melbourne’s Bourke St store the next day.
While Gaultier’s nautical and grungy inspiration for the collection is prominent throughout the collection, we can’t help but think the execution is lacking. Featuring over 100 pieces ranging in price from $10 to $300, we’re not too sure if consumers will justify a spend of $299 on a leather jacket from the commercial department store.
Will the range be a hit or miss for Australian fashion lovers? Or are we the only one’s who believe the 00’s-esque bubble skirt will never be back in style? Share your thoughts! {jcomments on}
