zaraopen02

It's the moment Brisbane fashion lovers have been waiting for, Zara is finally opening its doors in Queen St Mall!

The fast fashion Spanish brand is set to open at 9 am on Friday, November 20 at 115 Queen Street Mall.

The excitement is building and if the opening is anything like the store opening at Robina, customers will be lining up and even camping out for the chance to be some of the first to shop.

Zara is a favourite for chic pieces with clean lines and unique tailoring that can easily take you from the office to drinks. Through the brands four categories - including Zara Women, Zara Men, Zara Kids and Zara Home - there will be something for everyone and any occasion.

The addition to Queen St Mall comes after the successful openings of Topshop/Topman, Forever 21 and H&M in Brisbane. With Uniqlo opening soon, Queen St Mall is fast becoming the ultimate shopping destination in Brisbane!

A beauty editor's summer must-haves

beautyedfav01

The warmer months are upon us and of course that means a complete change in beauty, fashion and lifestyle favourites.

Summer calls for no-fuss beauty products and pops of colour. The Anastasia Brow Wiz (1) is a life changer for beauty lovers as the tiny nib of the crayon allows you to draw in fine lines, mimicking eyebrow hairs. Brush through your brows with the spooly end for flawless arches. For a creamy yet opaque lip colour we love the Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating lipstick (2). The creamy formula can easily be applied without a mirror and leaves your lips feeling plump.

To rock that summer glow without the effort of fake tan, the St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower (3) is a summer essential! The tanning lotion is used in the shower with a wait time of only three minutes and provides a beautiful bronzed glow.

This season we are seeing a lot of blue and aqua tones. The Clinique Eyeshadow Quad in Galaxy (4) has a combination of matte and shimmery shades with which you can create a variety of eye makeup looks. Adding a bright pop of colour to your makeup is a great way to take your look from office to drinks.

The accessory of the season has got to be a bold pair of sunglasses! These Karen Walker sunnies (5) are equal part chic, fun and on-trend. They are sure to make a statement.

A great fashion read is a must to accompany lazy summer days. Love x Style x Life by Garance Doré (6) is a must-read read for any aspiring fashionista. Love x Style x Life is part-style guide, visual diary and a peak into the world of one of fashion's most powerful influencers.

Let us know, what are your favourites this summer season? {jcomments on}

Things get heated for Kendall and Kylie in a sister-on-sister catfight

The girls are back! The 11th season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiers soon and to get you excited for the drama, E! News has released a juicy teaser.

The video shows Kendall and Kylie Jenner getting ready for the ESPY Awards, which they attended earlier in the year to support Caitlyn Jenner. Whilst getting ready to leave, Kylie discovered Kendall had ‘borrowed’ one of her dresses and the cussing gets a bit cray-cray from there!

A KUWTK season is not complete without a sister-on-sister b*tch fight but we aren't sure if not wanting to share clothes is really a reason to call your sister the "biggest f—king bitch I've ever met". We guess if our sister was a supermodel we wouldn’t want her wearing our clothes either.

In the season commentary, Kendall remarks that Kylie’s snippy attitude was probably due to the stress of the night as it was Caitlyn’s first public outing and speech.

Watch the video above and tell us below, "Do you think it was OK for Kendall to call Kylie out?" {jcomments on}

Lara Worthington brings the pixie cut back

Lara Worthington has shocked the world with a dramatic but chic pixie cut. The haircut, dubbed The Bingle, is sure to be the next big thing this summer. Worthington entrusted her chop to celebrity hairstylist Travis Balcke with the whole process time lapsed on Instagram.

The fresh change comes a year after Worthington decided to chop her locks into a wispy bob. While we loved her stylish WOB, Worthington looks sophisticated and mature with her new do.

How to become (more of) a morning person

morning01

The title says it all - some of us are just never going to enjoy early mornings but luckily there are habits you can take up to help you become more acceptant of early mornings. If like us, you resemble some form of cave creature in the morning and only manage to grumble a few words, these 5 tips can help you become a better version of yourself during those early morning hours.

1. Go to sleep early enough so you can get at least eight hours sleep and keep that bedtime consistent! This will allow your body to get into a routine meaning instead of wanting to hit snooze in the morning you will wake up with energy.

2. Allow natural light into your bedroom to let your body know when it is time to wake up.

3. When you set your alarm, keep your phone away from your beside so that you have to physically get up to turn off the beeping. Once you are out of bed the hardest part of waking up is over!

morning04

4. Do something you love! Make your morning routine something you look forward to by doing something you enjoy while getting ready, this could be watching your favourite YouTube video, listening to a motivational podcast or pumping out some upbeat tunes.

5. Breakfast is the most important meal of your day; we have had it drilled into us since a young age, why do so many of us still not listen? Try mashed avocado on toast for a meal that is both delicious and filled with good fat to get your brain working.

A fashion editors guide to breaking into the fashion industry

How to be a fashion editor

When telling people (especially the non-fashion obsessed) that I’m a Fashion Editor, I can receive quite a few eye rolls; once I was even told “oh you’re one of those people”. You mean someone that is hardworking, passionate and so happens to drool over the latest Fashion Weeks happening all across the world? Well, yes! As glamorous as the fashion industry can appear, it requires a lot of hard work and at times can be difficult to break into. However, I have your back with these pieces of advice which has helped me to land the amazing role I have here at Fashion Weekly, and will hopefully help those aspiring to be involved in the Fashion Industry.

Channel all of your experience to make you into the fashion recruitment jackpot!

While writing up your resume and cover letter have a deep think into all of the experiences you have received during the years, regardless if you’ve attended university or not. Even include your years of hospitality roles while also highlighting the valuable backstage dressing tips you've under your belt since volunteering at last year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival. It all shows your potential employer that you have numerous experiences in different fields along with an array of verstatile and varied skills.

Internships

You’ve probably heard of this numerous times, but interning is possibly the most valuable thing that anyone can do when trying to break into any industry. By gaining as much hands-on experience that you can, and making connections with your employer and fellow employees, you will be gaining valuable contacts who you will know for the rest of your career. Interning can also help you determine what specific field you want to be involved in.

Dress the Part

Shop the look: 1, 2, 3, 4

So you’ve landed an amazing interview at your favourite fashion magazine? The first thought that can pop into your head is what will I wear?! While we thrive for uniqueness within this stylish industry, it’s always best to stick to classic, professional looks that still manage to reflect your personal style. A printed skirt that sits at the knee is always a safe option, and paired with a simple blouse, intricate jewellery and a pair of gorgeous heels will have you looking instantly chic and professional.

Just say yes

Asked to get coffee, or your main role is to make copies? Through saying yes and being enthusiastic about all the tasks that you are given, and completing your tasks to the highest standards that they deserve (even if you are organising emails) you not only show that you are reliable, but that you’re passionate about the fashion industry and that you put your hands up for anything. Your employers will remember you when a promotion opportunity comes up.

Confidence is key

As the saying goes, “it’s not what you know it’s who you know”, which is a mantra that definitely relates to the fashion industry. In your role at a fashion magazine you will be invited to the most glamorous and fabulous events, where you will be given the opportunity to network and mingle with the best of the best. Maintain your cool and be confident when meeting your idols, and try to keep graciously calm when someone says they loved your article on the best boutiques in your city.

How to be a fashion editor

Make sure you’re doing what you love

If you don’t have an absolute passion for fashion (excuse the rhyme) and you haven’t got a flare for writing, your job as a fashion journalist will become quite repetitive, and soon the struggle will be real if you don’t live and breathe all things fashion.

We’re not all the devil in Prada

Miranda Priestly, the Editor-in-Chief from hell in the film, Devil Wears Prada, has definitely made an impact on society’s perception that the fashion industry is filled with judgmental, scary individuals. This is something that I must admit I was worried about before entering this world, but I was incredibly happy to find out that I have only encountered kind, fun and fabulous individuals. Through being nice to everyone you encounter you not only create an amazing first impression, but you’ll be remembered as you move up the fashion ladder.
