Broods drops Conscious album and it's shocking

Sure they're going to be heavily criticised but bold experimentation is the new black, right?

Broods drops Conscious album and it's shocking

New Zealand brother and sister duo, Broods, are a name you already should be acquainted with. Their debut album “Evergreen” gained international recognition with the incredible offerings “Bridges” and “Mother & Father”. For their sophomore studio album they have gone towards a more electric pop infused sound moving away from the moody indie-pop their debut mastered. It's a tactical move that will improve their live shows and see them moving towards bigger venues after opening for Ellie Goulding on her arena tour in America.

The opening track “Free” sets the mood with banging drums and oozing synths while still holding onto their honest and captivating lyrics.

“When I didn't care was when I did my best. I'm desperate to run, I'm desperate to leave. If I lose it all at least I'll be free”.

I've already made a massive call proclaiming that “Couldn't Believe” is one of the best pop songs of 2016 and I'm standing by it. The euphoric feeling this song embodies is no small feat and they do it so effortlessly with the big synths that will have you non stop grooving.

“We Had Everything” and “Full Blown Love” follow this trend and create pure pop moments that you can't help but instantly love. Their sound still holds onto their alternative roots with complex synths that make “Are You Home”, “Recovery” and “Hold The Line” stand out and not come across “too pop”.

Lorde helps bring back the sound you became accustomed to on the debut with the pulsating “Heartlines” that perfectly segues into some beautiful ballads.

“All Of Your Glory”, “Worth The Fight” and “Bedroom Door” are all highlights in their own right and give the album some balance from the heavy pop-synth driven sound that it is directed towards.

The only song I'm unsure about is the Tove Lo collaboration “Freak Of Nature” - only because this should have been a defining moment on the record but it just falls flat. Their two vocal techniques are too similar so when they come together it just loses momentum and fades into one. I feel like this song would have had the same impact if it was just Georgia on vocals.

Broods' album is very different from their debut but not only does it show growth but it also shows bold experimentation. They are going to be heavily criticised for this pop cross over but when the album is THAT good all you can do is applaud them because this will be one of the top 10 albums of the year.

Dressing for the office: style dos and dont's

The pieces that fashion conscious women would never wear to the office

The pieces that fashion conscious women would never wear to the office

It can be difficult to navigate the slippery slope of what is considered appropriate office attire. No woman wants to feel boring and drab during the week, but there is certainly a clear differentiation between clothing suitable for slugging it out in the office on a Tuesday, and tearing up the d-floor on a Saturday night. It is important to find a happy medium between the two, and for many young fashionistas, it is a constant juggling act. Read on to find out exactly how to look stylish and professional at work next week.

Dont's: what not to wear to work

-Off-the-shoulder tops
-Playsuits
-Short shorts
-Ripped jeans
-Sheer tops
-Leggings
-Bandage dresses
-Too much make-up
-Messy hair
-Too many accessories
-Crazy high heels
-Casual footwear (sneakers, sandals etc.)
-Overly bright colours/patterns

The rule: don't wear anything overly short, tight, revealing or casual – if your mum would approve of your outfit, chances are, so will your boss.

Dos: how to spice up your basic office attire

-Start with a must have, plain white button up
-Layer your clothes (add sweater or blazer in the cooler seasons)
-Stick to a colour scheme (we recommend a monochromatic one)
-Wear fine, elegant accessories (you can't go wrong with dainty rings and a designer time piece)
-Add interest to a simple look with a statement bag or pair of heels (a pair of Louboutins never hurt anyone)

The rule: simplicity is key. Stick to basic, essential pieces and add excitement with statement accessories and layers.

Dressing for the office is much simpler than it seems. Stick to these guidelines and successfully avoid the awkward eye contact with your HR rep – you can thank us later!

The Veronicas drop new single 'In My Blood'

Yes, you read that correctly. The Veronicas still exist and they've dropped a new single, 'In My Blood'.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Veronicas are still around and they've dropped a new single, 'In My Blood'.

The Veronicas are continually evolving as artists and their forthcoming fourth studio album will see them delve into heavier experimentation.

They debuted a dark new song at their preview show on the Gold Coast called “Best Friend” which had gritty guitars and smooth harmonies reminiscent of Lana Del Rey.

So I was expecting something a bit different when it came around to the lead single dropping but I wasn't entirely expecting this. “In My Blood” is an ultra pop and EDM enriched sound that on a first listen is a bit confronting because you're not used to hearing them like this. But on a second listen you will be instantly hooked with its infectious and euphoric hook that will pulsate through you.

No matter the direction they go towards musically they will always manage to give you the feels, majorly and this song is no different. “We don't have to wait all night to know if this is really love. We don't have to wait all night cause I can feel you in my blood.”

Their harmonies are still on point and it still has that Veronicas feel to it. It's just the beginning of a new era with a new maturity and club ready sound. I'm interested to see how this will translate live because it's so different to their previous work but I'm most intrigued to hear how the rest of the record will compare.

7 signs you follow Carrie Bradshaw's rules of love

7 reasons why, just like our favourite Sex and the City star, you won't settle for anything less than amazing.

7 reasons why, just like our favourite Sex and the City star, you won't settle for anything less than amazing.

As die-hard SATC fans, we can solemnly say that to this day, we use the show as a sort of bible for both fashion and love. From her Manolo's to her marriage, we sure follow closely and take note of exactly how to handle things just like our girl, Carrie, would. After every heartache, she bounced back more confident (and more stylish than ever), and over 10 years later, it is safe to say that we still attempt to emulate her in almost every way possible.

When it comes to love, Carrie was both brave and passionate. Read on and discover if you too have succeeded in mastering the always desirable Bradshaw ways.

1. You've had your fair share of bad break ups

Okay, so you might not have been dumped via a post it note (yet), but you've definitely experienced more heartbreak than the average girl. You love deeply and sometimes, guys can't handle your individuality. But it's their loss, and they know it as well as you do.

2. You rely on your girlfriend's for just about everything

For you, your friends are your family. You have a close knit group of girls that mean the world to you, and you wouldn't trade any of them for a guy (even if he is Bradley Cooper!)

3. You ditch a guy the second you realise he's not the one

You're not the type to wait around. If a guy doesn't make the effort, or if you're a little iffy about your future together, you will cut him loose just like that. Just like Carrie and the jazz guy, if you're not his top priority, you know all too well that he's not worth your precious time.

4. You're not a kid person

You're no Cruella de Vil, but kids just aren't for you. You're happy to hold a friend's bub over brunch, but one of your own? No thanks. Just like Carrie and Big, you are more than happy for it to just be the two of you (once you meet him of course).

5. You're afraid of commitment

Sure, you've had a bunch of boyfriends. You don't mind a guy spending the night, or even making things exclusive. But the second he tries to put a ring on your finger, boom, he's got you running for the hills.

6. You always go for the bad boy

You might amuse yourself with an Aidan for a while, but you can't resist the allure of a bad boy. There will always be that one guy that you're inexplicably drawn to, no matter how sweet someone else is. Our only suggestion: save everyone the pain and break up with your nice guy kindly. Don't do a Carrie and go behind his back – way too much drama for our liking!

7. You don't settle for any one less than Mr Big

Despite the countless mediocre boyfriends, bad dates and the occasional one night stands, you know your worth. Hold out for a guy who will build you your dream shoe closet. After all of the drama, you deserve it.

If these signs resonated with you, congratulations, you are pretty much the closest thing to Carrie. You know what you want and exactly how to get it. You are strong willed, effortlessly fashionable and undeniably unique. Keep doing exactly what you're doing. You might have to meet a few Jack Berger's and Alexander Petrovsky's along the way, but your Mr Big is out there. Keep falling head first into love and we guarantee, he's not as far off the horizon as you think.

5 out of the ordinary things to do this weekend

Our favourite, unique activities to spice up your weekend.

Things to to in Brisbane this weekend

Are you sick of the same old weekend routine? Collapsing after work on a Friday, hitting the clubs on a Saturday and sleeping in on a Sunday...It gets old pretty quickly! So this weekend, instead of sitting around complaining on a Monday morning, step out of the box and try one of our top picks for an interesting and memorable weekend activity.

Road trip to Mount Tambourine

Whether you plan on staying the night or just visiting for the day, the drive up to Mount Tambourine is well worth your while. Just over an hour out of the city, this little piece of paradise is Brisbane's best kept secret. Experience everything from a dip in the rock pools to a tasting at a winery. Take the trip up to Tambourine for a weekend you wont forget.

Sunset picnic at New Farm Park

As cheesy as it might sound, a picnic in the park is a truly lovely way to spend an afternoon. Pack a basket filled with your favourite treats or grab a coffee (or bottle of wine) from a nearby cafe or bar and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.

Look out from Mt Cootha

Jump in the car, grab some snacks and park yourselves at the peak. Roll down the windows and enjoy the beauty of Brisbane by night, preferably with the company of someone special.

[RELATED: The novice guide for brunch: from style to location]

Strawberry picking in Pimpama

Just a slight detour off the Gold Coast Highway, The Strawberry Farm is a must do for every Brisbanite. Pat the cutest little farm friends you've ever seen and enjoy one of their world famous, fresh strawberry icecreams. Think that sounds good? It gets better! Roam the fields and hand select your very own berries. Not only is this super fun, but you'll never be faced with a squishy strawberry again!

Absail at Kangaroo Point

This one's for all you adventure junkies out there. Forget all your work worries and literally jump off a cliff at Kangaroo Point (safely of course). You can climb up from the bottom and then scale down from the top – talk about a work out.

So, instead of facing the Sunday night blues, make the most of your weekend and try something new! Your camera roll (and your liver) will thank you!

Kardashian's furious with Rob over engagement

It turns out that Rob Kardashian has been acting super shady and didn't bother to tell his family about his engagement to Blac Chyna!

It turns out that Rob Kardashian has been acting super shady to didn't bother to tell his family about his engagement to Blac Chyna

It has been revealed on the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK) that Rob kept his engagement to Kardashian arch-nemesis, Blac Chyna, on the hush-hush and his family found out about the proposal on social media. Talk about shady!

It all went down on one of the Kardashian's notorious vacations, which this year was a ski trip in Vail. If you're a fellow KUWTK-obsessed, you'll be well aware that for the past few years Rob has avoided these family vacations, his reasoning's being due to his low self-esteem. This year was no different, however as it turns out Rob had a very different excuse.

A photo posted by Blac Chyna (@blacchyna) on

The Kardashian sisters admitted that they felt Rob-bed (see what we did there) when they found out about the news, and weren't sure to believe it at first.

“Finding out on social media leaves a really bad taste in my mouth,” said Khloe about the engagement.

"How does our own brother not tell us?!" Kim asked.

[RELATED: Kendall Jenner furious at Rob Kardashian]

Khloe, whose incredibly close to her brother, believes that Rob is trying to “push” the family away.

"All of us have always wanted the best for him," said Khloe. "Now that Rob has figured out where his happy is, instead of sharing that with his family he's like pushing us more away and he just keeps doing things to keep this divide between us, which I find disturbing. It's almost like, is someone in his ear giving him all this information that he should stay away from us? I can't handle it."

However, whilst Kourtney was shocked about the news, she defended her brother.

“But you guys are judgemental, and clearly you are,” said Kourtney. “"My brother is the happiest I've seen him in a long time and I just hope that everything is genuine and sincere and that's all we can hope. It's not up to us, so why cause any tension or add any drama? We should just be happy for them."

While we are happy for Rob and Blac China, it does leave us wondering if the Kardashian trio will ever let their grudge go?

Beauty trend revival: Bleaching body hair is back

Bleaching your body hair is back, here's what it is and how to do it!

Bleaching your body hair is back, here what is it and how to do it

In the modern day we are blessed with a variety of options when it comes to dealing with body hair.

From shaving, waxing and removal creams to more permanent laser treatments, there are a number of ways to get rid of those fuzzy hairs. However the latter all have a shortcoming – whether it be pain, cost or the hair growing back.

This is why we're introducing you to a beauty trend which is making a revival – bleaching. While bleaching your body hair is not a recent invention, in fact it is widely popular in South American countries where the 'peachy fuzz' (or golden veil) is considered sexy; it is not as commonly discussed as say, waxing.

So what is it?

Basically, this is just lightening your body hair and making it appear more golden and less visible, however this treatment won't remove your hair.

Who can do it?

This treatment works best if you ahve darker hair and on spots where you have fine hair, like your arms or on your tummy.

There are a number of at-home kits available which shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes.

What are the advantages?

Lightening your body hair is an affordable and fast DIY beauty treatment (done from the comfort of your own home) in which, unlike hair removal methods, the hair doesn't leave the follicle which means no stubbly regrowth. Plus some believe with a beautiful tan, golden body hair looks sexy!

What are the disadvantages?

While the appearance of the hair changes and it is less visible there is in reality just as much hair as before the treatment – meaning no hair-free smooth skin. Be aware that bleaching your body hair can also temporarily lighten your skin tone. Finally it is always a good idea to conduct a patch test to ensure to your skin doesn't react to the formula.

If you're looking for a luxurious, chic city escape in Brisbane, you can't go past Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments. Now, with the hotels latest addition of Delfina's Bistro, a stay at Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments is even more enticing.

It has been announced that the notorious, Brisbane-based restaurant will be permanently moving into a new space at Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments, the very first restaurant to grace the luxurious precinct.

After being open for just a few short years, Delfina's has made an impression on Brisbane locals as the place to be to receive delicious, premium meals with a deluxe, welcoming dining experience. Specialising in creating Australian cuisine with a European twist, Delfina's will certainly create an incredible experience to the houseguests.

The homely dishes of quality is what enticed Alex Perry & and Apartments General Manager, Craig Barber, to introduce the restaurant to the hotel.

“I have had the opportunity to enjoy the innovative fare provided when dining with Delfina's Bistro at their current location and I am excited by the opportunity to expose more of our houseguests to the experience,” said Barber.

As part of their partnership, Delfina's will also be servicing the hotels breakfast and room service selections. These include a Butler Mini Bar and gourmet room delivered Pantry Packs as just some of the room service options to ensure every guests stay is just as delicious as the hotels impeccable offerings.

The restaurant will be serving some of their most popular meals, including Peppered Yellow Fin Tuna, Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder and for dessert, the mouth-watering Mango & Tonka Panna Cotta. In celebration of their new space, Delfina's will be undergoing a few exciting restaurant updates, including the introduction of exclusive, house-made sparkling wines and waters, as well as syrups for soft beverages and cocktails.

Managing Director of Delfina's Bistro, Kelly-Ann Ashton has stated that the partnership with Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments will take the dining experience of Fortitude Valley to the next level.

“We're very excited about joining forces with the Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments team, the Alex Perry brand is world renowned and we are thrilled to be partnering with them here in Brisbane to really raise the bar in the Fortitude Valley precinct,” said Ashton.

A welcoming, comfortable experience is what the hotel aims to provide to all of their guests. As one of the exclusive dining opportunities offered by Delfina's, guests will be able to swap the restaurants traditional seating for the kitchen bench, where they can see chefs up-close and in action while they dine.

“A quality in house food and beverage offering was required to complete the wonderful experience enjoyed by guests when staying at Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments and we believe that the partnership with Delfina's Bistro will provide this key ingredient,” said Barber.

Glow from the inside with The Beauty Chef

Fashion Weekly chatted with Carla Oates, known as 'The Beauty Chef' about taking care of your skin from the 'inside'.

beautychefint02

Based in Sydney, Carla Oates has been researching and writing about organic beauty and health for the last fifteen years. This passion and knowledge led to the creation of The Beauty Chef brand.

Utilising the power of prebiotics, probiotics and bio-fermentation, The Beauty Chef Inner Beauty Powders and liquid Boosts use an exclusive Flora Culture™ process with 25 years of research behind it, to create supercharged whole food supplements that address inner gut health for beautiful and radiant skin.

Where does your passion and interest in organic health and beauty stem from?

CO: I published a book, Feeding Your Skin, and had a DIY beauty column for The Sunday Telegraph for eight years, as well as being the Natural Beauty Editor for Wellbeing Magazine. During this time I made all my own skincare from scratch and was giving them to friends and family to use. I created quite a demand and that demand grew to friends of friends.

Creating The Beauty Chef brand seemed like a natural progression. I started experimenting with lacto-fermenting different blends of skin-loving ingredients, and the result was my Inner Beauty Powder, now named Glow, which promotes skin radiance from the inside out.

What does the term 'beauty begins in the belly' mean to you?

CO: This is our trademark mantra: Digestive health is key for healthy, radiant skin.

What makes The Beauty Chef Inner Beauty Powders different to regular health-food supplements?

CO: We were the first to create a bio-fermented inner beauty powder, and we also use our own unique fermentation process called FLORA CULTURE.

We are very focused on getting nutrients from whole foods and natural probiotics. Our products are literally alive with beneficial bacteria that help to balance digestive health, plus all the bio-available nutrients from superfoods that nourish the skin.

You have developed the world's first 'living skincare range', what exactly does that mean?

CO: It is 'living' because of the live enzymes and probiotics, as well as fermentation making the ingredients more bio-available for the skin to use.

The ingredients have been broken down to be more easily absorbed as well as more nutritious and active.

What is your favourite go-to healthy snack for when you're on the go?

CO: I love these Bliss Balls that I have made using The Beauty Chef GLOW.

The Beauty Chef bliss balls recipe

As an advocate for healthy living, what would we find in your fridge or pantry on a regular day?

CO: In my fridge I always have filtered water, lots of greens like veggies and seasonal fruits, bircher muesli and yoghurt, Meredith Valley goats cheese, organic chicken, coconut milk, herbs and spices like garlic, fresh turmeric, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves for curry.

In the pantry I keep quinoa, chia seeds, canned sardines, tamari almonds, organic nuts like almonds and brazil nuts and dark chocolate.

Do you have any exciting ventures coming up?

CO: We are expanding globally with a new stockist and have additions and updates to the range to announce soon.

18 sassy quotes from The Devil Wears Prada

Here's the best, sassiest quotes from The Devil Wears Prada that will make you laugh out loud!

The sassiest The Devil Wears Prada quotes

The Devil Wears Prada is possibly one of the most iconic films that's inspired a generation who's hungry to work in the fashion industry. Who hasn't wished Nigel would work his magic and turn them into the ultimate fashionista? And deep down we all have to admit, despite her prickly exterior, we all loved Miranda Priestly. In honour of our favourite movie turning 10 years old (can you believe it?!), here's 18 of the best The Devil Wears Prada quotes.

1. “Florals? For spring? Ground breaking.” – Miranda.

2. “You know what's going to kill me, is the clothes you are going to get. I mean, you don't deserve them, you eat carbs for Christ's sake. CARBS! It's so unfair.” – Emily.

3. “'This... stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. When, in fact, you're wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of...stuff.” – Miranda.

4. “Okay. Now Chanel. You're desperate for Chanel.” – Nigel.

5. “Oh don't be silly. Everyone wants this. Everyone wants to be us.” – Miranda.

The best Devil Wears Prada quotes

6. “I'm on this new diet. Well, I don't eat anything and when I feel I'm about to faint I eat a cube of cheese.” – Emily.

7. “You sold your soul to the devil when you put on your first pair of Jimmy Choos. I saw it.” – Emily.

8. “Oh, I'm sorry, do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?” – Emily.

9. “I refuse to be sick. I'm wearing Valentino for crying out loud.” – Emily.

10. “Who is that sad little person? Are we doing a before-and-after piece I don't know about?” – Nigel.

11. “I love my job. I love my job. I love my job.” – Emily.

12. “Millions of girls would kill for this job.” – Emily.

13. "Is there some reason my coffee isn't here? Has she died?" – Miranda.

Sassiest The Devil Wears Prada quotes

14. “Don't make me feed you to one of the models.” – Nigel.

15. “Fashion is not about utility. An accessory is merely a piece of iconography used to express individual identity.” – Miranda.

16. “OK, can you spell Gabbana?” – Andy.

17. “Yes, because that's really what this whole multibillion-dollar industry is all about, isn't it? Inner beauty.” – Nigel.

18. “That's all.” – Miranda.

12 Signs you are the Grinch of relationships

If you relate to these situations you might just be the Grinch of relationships!

12 Signs you are the Grinch of relationships

Whether it's due to a bad breakup, being single for too long or a series of dud dates, most of us have been at that point where we just hate, love. Some call this being 'jaded', we call it being the Grinch of relationships – and hey, it's totally okay to feel like this. It won't last forever (we hope)...

If you can relate to these 12 situations, we're sorry to say but you might actually be the Grinch of relationships; just ask your friends, we're sure they've noticed too.

1. Romantic comedies bring out your inner sceptic - they just never seem realistic to you.

Your reaction to most rom-coms is more along the lines of 'pffft' and 'as if' than 'how sweet'.

2. PDA is not acceptable... ever!

And if that couple is going to be insolent and go there, you're going to be rude and make that WTF face right at them.

3. You make fun of EVERY #couplegoals meme you see on social media.

Made even better if you have a like-minded friend to tag and disgust!

4. Similarly if you see couples at the gym working out in unison it makes you want to throw up in your mouth a little...

Or you take a sneaky Snapchat to send to said friend.

5. When a guy hits on you, you usually suspect an ulterior motif.

“What DO you want?”.

6. You're secretly happy when celebrity couples break up.

If even Gigi can get her heart broken, then you're slightly more okay with this whole situation.

Sings you are the Grinch of love.

7. You cannot deal when you invite a friend somewhere and their significant other tags along.

You have a serious aversion to the word “we”.

8. You value your alone time.

No you can't hang out later, no you don't have other plans; you just enjoy staying-in alone and over eating.

9. You're so sceptic about the motives of those you date that you find it easier not to develop feelings at all, so you're always just on the surface level with people.

You 'catch up', you don't catch feelings.

10. It really frustrates you when your taken friends have to consult their partner before making plans.

You couldn't imagine dealing with that responsibility ... like aren't you your own person? Eye roll*

11. The worst thing anyone can ever say to you is to give you reassurance that the right person is out there.

You know, THAT look that comes with the “there's plenty of fish in the sea” and the pat on the back.

12. You damn well take care of yourself and get offended when people insinuate you can't do something.

You've learnt all the single-person hacks, from the fake tan mitt on the hanger trick to figuring out how to open that tightly twisted jar without a muscly man.

Kimye and Karl Lagerfeld exciting project

There has been a new K added into the Kimye mix, with Karl Lagerfeld reportedly teaming up with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian-West for a top secret fashion project, and we can't contain our excietment!

E! News reports that the fashion powerhouses were spotted having a photoshoot at Lagerfeld's renown bookstore, Librarie 7L, as well as his back studio in the 7th district of Paris- the exact same space Kim shot the cover for fashion legend, Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion book back in 2013.

Kimmy K turned to her snapchat to allude to the top secret project, taking sneaky behind the scene snaps of the photoshoot.

What's more, Carine Roitfeld was also spotted on set, with Kim posting a snap of Karl and Carine captioned “the real icons”.

A source told E! News that the shoot lasted for around 4 hours, and after they planned to go out for dinner at Kimye's fave restaurant in Paris, Ferdi.

Whatever they have up their sleeves, we are sure it's going to be extraordinary!
