Commitment woes you’re sure to have in your 20s

CommitWoes01

It’s time to bring up the dreaded C word... Yep we’re talking about commitment!

Commitment, be it to relationships or life decisions, is a scary thought for some. During our twenties, most of us are just trying to navigate our way through life and avoid life changing decisions. If I can’t even decide what I want for dinner, how on earth am I supposed to commit to what I want out of life?!

These are the top four obligations you’re sure to face in your twenties that will give you commitment phobia!

Committing to a real relationship

While the idea of a loving relationship might be enticing, making the decision to be exclusive in a relationship can be scary. Your twenties is one of the only times in life where you can be completely selfish. Being in a committed relationship means you need to compromise and consider your partner’s needs over what you want. The truth is, relationships aren’t easy; whether it is sexual, friendship or family, all relationships require hard work.

Signing your first employment contract

Sure, most of us have been working at our local cafés and bars since our teenage years but there’s something about signing a long-term contract that can be daunting. Committing to a career not only means you are accountable for your actions, but you have to stick with your decision even if it is not exactly as you expected.

Committing to a healthy lifestyle change

Gone are the days where you can eat whatever you want - and drink as much as you want - without it affecting your body. Whether you decide to try a paleo diet or sign up to a gym, sticking to healthy habits can be really hard... especially when it is 2 am in the morning and all you can think of is a greasy cheeseburger.

Signing a lease

Once you finally find that dream semi-affordable apartment, you will most likely have to lock in a contract for a period of time. Whether it is six months or a year, committing to live somewhere (or with someone) when you don’t know what your future holds is not an easy task.

We want to know what commitment woes you have faced? {jcomments on}

Ladies in Black Review: An Iconic Moment for Brisbane

LadiesinBlackQTC02

Three words: Ladies in Black. It's more than just traditional musical theatre, it's a frock fest from heaven's wardrobe.

Step back in time to the 1950s where fashion, culture and social prejudice were still evolving. This extraordinary piece is a stylish story of friendship, lust worthy dresses and the women that wear them.

From the adaption of Madeleine St John’s 1993 novel, The Women in Black, this new production is brought to life by Australian screenwriter Carolyn Burns and internationally-acclaimed director Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Love Never Dies) with original music from acclaimed singer songwriter, Tim Finn OBE (Split Enz, Crowded House).

The cast of 11 delivered an exceptional performance where you can't help but fall in love with the characters. They are honest and truthful and it's near impossible not to get drawn into their world as they go through the emotional rollercoaster of life.

LadiesinBlackQTC04

We of course acknowledge the faces behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to create the on-stage perfection.

"[This production] was a huge undertaking in 5 weeks, this is actually a 3 month job. It's a very large and detailed show," said Head of Wardrobe, Vicky Martin.

Martin said the team had been working right up to the minute. "It was quite stressful and phenomenal to see it all come together."

With the period being set in the 50s the wardrobe crew had to take inspiration from this iconic time to ensure every element was authentic. From the shoes, to the wigs - every decision had to be made with meticulous attention to detail.

Ladies in Black also features a stunning range of some 30 custom-designed and created dresses and suits, representing one of the biggest wardrobe projects for the company since 1999. There are three full stage revolves in the show, 400 lighting cues, a six piece band on stage at all times, and more than 60 costume changes.

Brisbane's opening night had guests rise to their feet to congratulate the faces in-front of and behind Ladies in Black with a standing ovation.

LadiesinBlackQTC01

In its entirety, it is theatre with depth. The reminiscent visuals and familiar storyline will transport you back in time. Laughter will fill the air and smiles are present as each audience member falls in love with the history, innocence and glamour that is Ladies in Black.

The production is already confirmed to open the Melbourne Theatre Company’s (MTC) Season 2016 in January next year, another coup for QTC.

Executive Director, Sue Donnelly from Queensland Theatre Company said, "All of the staff has been remarkable. I hope that in a couple more years, we do another musical."

"I'm really moved by this, I love this show."

Tickets are available at queenslandtheatre.com.au or by calling 136 246

In Brisbane now until December 06, 2015

About Ladies in Black

With a dash of delicate comedy, Ladies in Black is a modern-day fairytale set in a stylish department store - F.G. Goodes - in a city on the cusp of becoming cosmopolitan and crossing the threshold between the stuffy repression of the 1950s and the glorious liberation of the 1960s. Donning a distinguished black dress, the bright-eyed, bookish school leaver Lisa is about to join the ranks on the sales floor of the city’s most prestigious department store – temporarily, of course. Her domineering dad intends to railroad her into a career as a secretary, but Lisa has grander schemes in mind.

In that summer of innocence, a world of possibilities opens up as she befriends the colourful denizens of the women’s frocks department – there’s Patty, embroiled in her marital strife; the lovelorn and unlucky Fay; and the exotic, compelling European refugee, Magda, mysterious mistress of the model gowns, who takes Lisa under her wing. From the Christmas rush to the chaos of the sales, these women stand shoulder to padded shoulder and together learn lessons in life, love and longing – and at the end, it’s not just the fancy frocks that are forever altered.

Why fashion's elite never opt for practicality when shopping for a timepiece

Chrono02

When was the last time you bought something and thought about its practicality and diversity? Every accessory has a backstory, but in the price-competitive and disposable market of today, finding a piece that lasts a lifetime is rare.

Reflecting on how the fashion industry has evolved is fascinating. We once lived in a time where suitability and usefulness made sense but now making smart choices and making a style mark are two completely different things.

For example, the watch was once cherished for its functional reasons such as telling the time, but now we all have smart phones for that or even some of us have smart watches. Now the classic watch serves as a fashion statement rather then just a timepiece.

Have you ever wondered if maybe the luxury market is taking on a new meaning by delivering less trendy alternatives and now offering exclusivity and quality?

Overexposure of a product can almost cheapen the want-factor, while the feeling of something being unattainable exudes mystery and that in itself is priceless.

Chrono03

A classic brand Rolex for example, maintains its high value - not only because of the name but from its well respected craftsmanship.

That's why making an investment purchase is more than just buying a coveted accessory. It's the beginning of a new journey.

If you are looking at buying a watch, then you need to choose one that suits your personality, sensibility and budget. It can come in a classic silver design, sport a leather strap, show off feminine diamonds or you can make a statement by doing the unexpected and wear a man's watch.

Women's watches are usually inspired by the latest fashion styles and quickly date according to the season. But if you choose a man's watch, it will be a working piece of art. The big, bold masculine design will draw the eye to the wrist which is one of the most feminine parts of a woman's body.

Regardless of your preference, choose a wrist-piece that suits your personality and represents you. Adopt the watch as part of your signature style, it's a dressy, timeless essential that will last you a lifetime.

Target set to launch its latest designer collaboration

JPGforTarget01

In the latest designer collaboration news, Australian department store Target has announced a collection with French designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

Target announced its partnership with international haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier on November 26, 2015. Officially dubbed Jean Paul Gaultier for Target, the collaboration will see the launch of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing as well as a range of homewares in early 2016.

The collection strives to combine Jean Paul Gaulter’s unique and quirky design ethos into ready-to-wear clothing that resonates with the Australian lifestyle.

“Every time I’ve been to Australia I’ve been impressed by the laid-back, unstuffy confidence that Australians display with their fashion – it resonates with my design philosophy and has such synergy with my own approach to fashion and style,” Mr Gaultier said.

This partnership is the most recent in Target’s designer collaborations, which in the past has included Stella McCartney, Missoni, Dion Lee, Roberto Cavalli, Ksubi and Collette Dinnigan.

Featuring over 100 products with prices starting from merely $10.00, this raises concerns on how designer and retail collaborations are affecting the exclusivity of designer fashion.

Is it a smart move for the future of the fashion industry to make high-end designer names accessible to the everyday woman at such a drastically reduced cost?

By The Sea Film Review

ByTheSea02

Set during the 1970s in a quiet French seaside town, By The Sea tells the story of a married couple undergoing an apparent crisis.

The film opens as Roland (Brad Pitt), an American writer and his wife Vanessa (Angelina Jolie Pitt), a former dancer, travel through the French countryside and arrive at a seaside town. Vanessa, impeccably dressed for the small town, arrives at the hotel with plenty of baggage, both figuratively and literally. The couple move in sync as they unpack their belongings and set up their life in the hotel room, hinting to the audience that this is something they have done many times before.

Written, directed and produced by Academy Award winner Jolie Pitt, By the Sea explores timeless themes that accompany a life fully lived - loss and grief - and our unconquerable ability to repair relationships and recover from loss. The film is loosely based on the life of Jolie’s mother Marcheline Betrand, who passed away after battling cancer. In an interview with Vogue Australia, Jolie Pitt opens up about the film’s influence, “... the specific grief came from the woman I was closest to, seeing her slip away, her body fail her”.

ByTheSea05

Roland is a burnt out writer and a drunk that spends his days at the local bar where he befriends an old man; Vanessa is severely depressed and spends her days wallowing in bed. It is clear the wealthy couple carry a heavy burden. They reconcile over their mutual curiosity in the young, newlywed couple that moves into the room next door, as they find a peephole in the adjoining wall.

The film has an eerie and mysterious mood which lets the audience know that something haunts the couples past. Jolie Pitt’s character is self-pitying and at times childish as she faces issues that many women face.

In its style, and its treatment of themes of the human experience, By the Sea is inspired by European cinema and theatre of the 1960s and 1970s. As can be expected of a self-written, self-directed film, the acting between the real-life married couple is at times cringe-worthy. Beautiful sea vistas, glamorous 1970s costumes and retro additions like Roland’s typewriter, Vanessa’s oversized designer sunglasses, stylish titfer and the couples convertible evokes interest and adds a touch of glamour to the lacking narrative.

By The Sea is ultimately a vanity project and while the film is hard love, it is tempting to uncover whether the acting is a portrayal of the couples real-life relationship.

The Program Film Review

TheProject01

Heroic Legacy to Notorious Cheat, The Program tells the story of Lance Armstrong and his journey into the tainted books of sporting history.

The most recent biopic from Stephen Frears tells the disgraced story of Lance Armstrong, once a role model and household name, he eventually descended into being the sports most publicised cheat. It goes without saying, we all have heard the name 'Lance Armstrong'.

We were all once blinded by his inspiration and eventually left betrayed of hope in a world with one less hero. The Program tells a sort of chronological story of the athlete's journey, taking us through his cycling career all while an investigative reporter tries to collect evidence to expose the scandal.

TheProject03

Ben Foster as Lance Armstrong gave an absolutely chilling performance as he expressed the character's near sociopathic tendencies through his reckless desire to win at all costs.

All while perfectly hammering home the ego and narcissism associated with the drug kingpin of cycling. This is the strength of the film as it delivers a view into the corruption of sport and the culture of performance enhancing drugs. It almost seems that the science that goes behind the scenes to stay undetected is even more exhausting then the cycling itself. The Program also displays the naivety of the world, that we were fooled and drawn into the charisma and heroics of a glory craving athlete, while making him untouchable through his charity.

The film however seemed to lack a narrative. The focus was on the cheating scandal and not the man. Armstrong met and married his wife in 30 seconds, his kids were barely mentioned all while casually name dropping a few celebrities. The film was so distracted with telling the world how we should hate the cheat that he was, that they did not address him as a 'big' celebrity or even acknowledge all the good he accomplished - such as creating the first unified global cancer movement in history. The Program definitely leaves you with the right perception but you can't help but think it leaves Armstrong slightly misunderstood.

The Program in cinemas now.

7 poisonous things single people are tired of hearing

SingleStop02

I'm single, a boss b#tch and I earn a six figure salary. I'm what you call 'intimidating' to a swipe right driven society. I'm told that I'm too confident, too independent and too fierce to be holding hands with anything other than my iPhone and Birkin bag.

Which brings me to question, why am I being looked at as an outcast because I chose to be career driven and goal orientated? I'm approaching my thirties and I'm constantly probed as to why I don't have a ring on my finger. Since when did my relationship status bother anybody other than me?

Not only am I going to be blatantly honest about the questions people ask and think but I'm also going to give you a few things to consider when this situation occurs.

At the end of the day, when it comes to being in a relationship or being single or whatever ones preference is, these are the top 7 things that should never be questioned because quite frankly, they annoy the sh#t out of people like you and me.

Does my vagina still work?

Of course it does. We live in 2015 people, if I wanted to have sex, then I would, if I don't - then the last time I checked, I had a purple battery operated friend who can help me out in that department.

Am I sleeping with everyone?

Just because I'm not committed right now doesn't mean I spread my legs easily (but so what if I did, it's my choice and my body)

Am I lonely?

Everyone gets lonely. But in a world of technology there's hundreds of apps to download where I can strike up random conversations.

Am I too complicated?

Maybe, but don't mix my singleness with being too stuck up to date men. Have you ever thought that maybe I've made a choice not to settle for an arsehole?

Am I worried about my eggs?

Please give me a break. Kids or no kids, I'll figure that out when I'm ready.

Am I the marrying type?

Seriously, this is no ones concern. When and if I choose to marry is completely my business. But right now I'm totally OK with being married to my career.

Am I happy?

Happiness isn't just found in a man. Let me leave you with this quote by Carrie Bradshaw, "Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with."

7 things Samantha Jones taught us about sex

We love each of the girls in their own way, but there's no denying Samantha Jones put the sex in Sex and the City! While Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda were looking for Mr. Right (or trying for the 100th time with Mr. Big), Samantha gallivanted across New York without a care in the world, which often resulted in cringe-worthy situations. Samantha being Samantha however, always has the right comeback and has taught us valuable lessons under the cover.

1. Don’t slip the L word too early... especially not if the sex IS good!

2. You are in control of your own pleasure.

3. Waiting doesn’t necessarily mean you will have a happily ever after.

How to get the best out of Black Friday & Cyber Monday sales

black friday sales australia

Image: Source

It was once said that retail therapy soothes the soul, and we all know that we never need an excuse to shop. With the Black Friday and Cyber Monday mega sales taking place from Friday November 27 until the Monday November 30, we can guarantee that we will be maxing out our credit cards this weekend.

Conventionally an American tradition taking place around Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the US answer to Australia’s crazy Boxing Day sales. However, Cashrewards has predicted that this year more Aussies than ever will be taking part in the sales (and avoiding the cues and chaos) all in the comfort of their own home. This is due to an increase of American retailers, such as Bloomingdale’s, ASOS and Macy’s, all providing incredible online sales for their Australian consumers.

The Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have also been adopted by Australian brands, such as Metalicus and UGG Australia, offering their very own Black Friday sales. Whilst the sales can be a chance for you to finally get your hands on those gorgeous Valentino heels at a discounted price, we have put together our top tips to getting the absolute best out of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales for our readers.

1. Educate yourself on the time difference between Australia and America.

As the majority of sales will drop on Friday, sometime even Thursday, in America, in Australia that will be Saturday morning in Australia. Check the sales on Friday and Saturday morning just in-case of a surprise flash sale.

2. Know your US size.

There’s nothing worse than finding the perfect Alexander Wang dress for you're Christmas celebrations and then realising you don’t know your dress size in US measurements. By knowing your size you’ll reduce your stress, and you’ll score the dress before it sells out.

3. Steer clear of electronics.

Whilst the savings on that GHD hair straightener is incredible, if you're purchasing from a US site there is a high chance that you will need a plug adapter to use it here in Australia.

4. ‘Tis the season of giving

With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are the perfect time to start buying your loved ones Christmas and birthday gifts at an amazing discount!

5. Do your research

A few days prior to the sales have a look at your favourite online stores to see whether they are taking part in the sales, and pick a few of your favourite pieces that you will purchase if they do. This will save you time and also ensure that you’re not living off two minute noodles for the next few weeks.

Swimwear truths and how to be summer ready with Ruth Hurley

RH Swimwear

Australian boutique swimwear label, RH Swimwear, has just launched their second collection. Characterised by the brands values of classic styles with a modern twist, the range is features minimalist styles, lac- up details, fresh bold prints and bold block colours which allows the collection to be versatile in mix-and –match options. We spoke with the designer and founder of RH Swimwear, Ruth Hurley, about her inspirations, her top tips to feel good in a bikini and if a woman can ever have too many bikinis.

What do you love most about designing swimwear?

RH: I love that my work represents a lifestyle that I adore. That our customers will be wearing their RH swimmers at some of their happiest times, whether it’s relaxing on one of Australia’s beautiful beaches or on holiday, for me it’s a good day if you’re in a bikini!

Can a woman ever have too many bikinis?

RH: Of course not! Seriously though, one of the reasons I started RH Swimwear was because I felt like there wasn’t a brand out there offering our aesthetic at an affordable price. This meant I was only buying 1 or 2 bikinis a season, and to be honest when you live by the beach that’s just not enough! What I love about our collections is that you can buy 2 prints and 1 solid colour and mix them all up to create lots of different looks.

Where do you find your design inspirations?

RH: From all over really - I obviously follow the fashion industry closely, anticipating trends and taking inspiration from catwalk looks; but there’s also a lot to be said for gut instinct, I hope that if something really appeals to me then it will also appeal to RH Swimwear customers. An idea often takes a while to develop – I might have seen a print somewhere, not necessarily on an item of clothing but on a bed cover or dinning plate set (it could be anything); I’ve noticed that if it strikes a chord then it’ll stay with me and come out in a design later down the track. It’s only afterwards when I look back that I’ll sometimes remember the original source that kicked off a specific design.

RH Swimwear

What are your 3 tips to look and feel your best in a bikini?

RH: 1. Buy a good fitting bikini that you feel comfortable in.

2. Use colour, embellishments and other details to either accentuate you’re favourite bits, or to balance out disproportions. I.e. if you’re smaller on the top than the bottom, wear a printed bikini top matched with solid colour bottoms in a dark hue.

3. Just try to have fun at the beach/pool (whatever you’re doing) and not get too paranoid about body insecurities. If you’re enjoying yourself you’ll subsequently be feeling good and looking good to others too.

What are your 3 beach essentials?

RH: A good book (I love a gripping thriller), lots of water (my body seems to need an unusual amount of it), sun cream and a friend! (Your RH bikini is a given of course).

RH Swimwear

If you could choose any celebrity to wear your bikinis, who would it be?

RH: I'm not a huge celeb worshiper, I like Mila Kunis, I think she's beautiful and I used to watch That 70's Show when I was a teenager so I love that she's made it now. Or Kate Moss is always going to be high up my list for effortless style.

What are your top tips to prolong the life of your bikini?

RH: Don’t put it in the washing machine ever, make sure you properly rinse out the chlorine and salt water, and always let it fully dry (away from sunlight). You can buy special washing liquids but I tend to just wash my bikinis in the shower with some shampoo. It’s better to do that as soon as you get in from the beach then leave it wet for hours thinking that you’ll wash it properly later.

To feel gorgeous and water-ready this summer, be sure to check out the latest styles on RH Swimwear.

Top 5 Travel Mistakes and How To Avoid Them

travelmistake02

With the holiday season right around the corner it’s time to turn those travel dreams into reality. Avoid the pitfalls of travel and make the most of your trip with these 5 vital tips.

1. Not doing your research

If you’re looking to travel without breaking the bank, take the time to shop around online for holiday packages and travel deals. You can easily score yourself a bargain deal that includes flights, accommodations and other add-ons! If you’re shopping around to compare fares, make sure you turn off cookies and browse in incognito mode. Many travel websites track your searches and increase the prices based on your demand.

2. Over-packing

The excitement of travel means it’s easy to fill your suitcase to the brim, but less really is more. Depending on your destination you may be able to buy clothes and other items for a lower price overseas. Pack travel sized toiletries or buy small sample sized containers and fil them up with your favourite products. If you’re travelling in winter, wear your thickest jacket on the plane to save luggage space.

3. Forgetting to sort out your money beforehand

To avoid hefty conversion rates and withdrawal fees by arranging a travel money card. These can lock in a flat exchange rate across the whole trip, which means you won’t suffer if the Aussie dollar suddenly drops in value.

4. Falling off the health bandwagon

When you’re on holidays, it’s only right to indulge. However too much indulgence will only leave you feeling worse off when you return. Be mindful of your health and make smart healthy choices where possible. Explore the fresh food markets and sample the local produce to ensure you’re getting your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables. Exercising while travelling can be a challenge. Download easy-to-use fitness apps before you go and slot in some exercise in the comfort of your hotel room.

5. Sticking to a jam-packed schedule

Holidays are designed to help you relax and recharge, so don’t fill your itinerary with too many activities. Put aside an entire free day in your itinerary and don’t plan a thing. Wake up, choose an adventure and blaze your own trail.

Travel broadens the mind and breathes life into the soul, these tips and an open mind will ensure you have your dream holiday.

Georgi Kay talks life struggles and new single 'God of a Girl'

GeorgiKay02

There was a time when musical chameleon, Georgi Kay felt isolated. Her escape has always been music and to her - it's therapeutic. She is an unstoppable force who's ready to share her voice with the world.

You probably already know her from her past tours with Alpine, Clubfeet and Ed Sheeran. She has also won an ARIA award and has collaborated with some impressive names in the industry.

We sat down with the Kay to talk about her music predictions, her inspiration and of course, her new single 'God Of A Girl.'

In a nutshell, how did your journey in music begin?

GK: Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been into music, creative writing and story-telling.

It wasn’t until I won the 2010 WAM Song Of The Year award with my original song ‘Breakfast In Bedlam’ that I realised that singing, songwriting and music in general was my calling.

What kind of music do you listen to today?

GK: Mostly dark or euphoric beats, because that’s my general vibe.

A photo posted by Georgi Kay (@georgikay) on

Can you tell us about your new single God Of A Girl? What was the inspiration behind it?

GK: Being a loyal follower of Stephen King’s novels and sci fi/horror films in general, I decided to watch the film adaptations of ‘Carrie’ (both the 1976 and 2013 remake). I was immediately drawn to Carrie’s character.

That isolated part of me related to Carrie ... thus the idea of ‘God Of A Girl’ was formed – the story of a victim looking in the mirror and imagining that in her mind and in her world she was the complete opposite – an unstoppable force of power, impervious to pain and frighteningly beautiful. A God of a girl.

You are super busy juggling both music and an acting career. How do you handle the workload?

GK: Currently I’m not pursuing acting at all. I’m focusing solely on my music and what I represent as both a human being and an artist. There’s so much going on in the music world anyway – so I’m very happy keeping it simple. For now anyway!

What feelings or emotions are you trying to evoke with your music?

GK: Real ones! Raw and genuine. I guess because I’m not very good at showing my emotions face to face, I seek solace in writing and singing my songs – because they’re from the heart and soul. And I feel like that’s my way of expressing how I truly feel about love, life and everything in between. The whole process is very therapeutic for me.

What has been a highlight in your career so far?

GK: Definitely my ARIA award and Grammy nomination. Those are amazing achievements that I’m very proud of and grateful for – especially at such an early stage in my career.

Acting in and being part of the soundtrack in Jane Campion’s mini series ‘Top Of The Lake’ was a pretty incredible experience too. Definitely a highlight!

What are your music predictions?

GK: I like that production and songwriting are complimenting each other more in songs now, radio-played or otherwise.

A song should be one lone entity, with the music aiding the melody and lyrics – and vice versa. I’ve been so turned off by a lot of music in the past because of its 10% music and 90% vocals ratio. It’s often too much information and to be honest, less is more.

It’s nice to hear space in a song – let both the soundscape and the vocals breathe. It’s already beginning to happen in commercial radio, just listen to MO or Justin Bieber’s latest work - so I’m looking forward to hearing more of this vibe.

What is the one thing the music industry has taught you?

GK: Follow your passion – you’re the only one driving it and you’re the only one who’s going to love it as much as you do.

Don’t ever let others opinions shake you – unless they’re the opinions of those whom you look up to and respect.

When they’re valid and you can choose whether you wish to take them on board or not. But at the end of the day you must always stay true to yourself.

What advice do you have for aspiring young artists?

GK: Collaborate with other artists. Take risks and learn from your mistakes. Be bold and be brave, explore and experiment until you find your vibe. But most of all – stay focused, stay humble and have fun!

What’s next?

GK: Well! After releasing ‘God Of A Girl’ the next step is the release of the ‘God Of A Girl (Crash Acid Remix)’ by my good friend, DJ and insanely talented musician, Virgil Howe. After that comes the single off the ‘ORIGINS’ EP – ‘More Than This’.

I’m currently working on the music video edit and I’ve got a great remix of the track coming out in the clubs too.

Then comes the full EP with all 5 songs – inspired by my love for sci-fi/horror films and visuals, as well as past experiences in toxic and difficult relationships – both romantic and otherwise. Plus I’ve got a much-needed trip back to LA after Christmas, so I’m very excited for that!

I’m really pumped to hear what everyone thinks of my EP ‘ORIGINS’ as it unfolds over the next couple of months. I can’t wait.

'God Of A Girl' is available now on iTunes or for free download from Georgi Kay's website www.georgikay.com.

Zara has landed in Brisbane's ultimate shopping destination

zara02

The wait is over! Zara has finally arrived in Brisbane.

The flagship store opened its doors on November 20 and judging by the fashion crowds excitedly awaiting the opening, Zara is sure to be a hit!

Zara’s first Brisbane store is right in the heart of the city, at 155 Queen Street, directly opposite of what will become Uniqlo and in close proximity of H&M. With the retail space expanding over 1,600 sqm across three levels and departments - including Zara Woman, Zara Man and Zara Kids – the flagship store caters for a variety of Queensland customers.

The store design features Zara’s latest global retail concept combining beauty, clarity, functionality and sustainability. The combination of sleek white surfaces, a neutral backdrop and great lighting create an inviting shopping experience where it is easy to max out your credit cards.

The impressive womenswear selection spans across two levels and includes Zara Basic, Zara Woman and Zara Trafaluc; there’s no doubt you will find an outfit for every occasion!

Zara Woman has the biggest selection of hot off the runway pieces including chic separates, evening dresses and a collection of seasonal outerwear. To ensure customers have the best shopping experience, bags and shoes are styled throughout the store to match the garments. This means putting a stylish outfit together is quick and easy!

The more popular pieces this season are off-the-shoulder tops, monochrome pieces with accents of burnt orange and marsala and two-piece sets in bright prints; which can be rocked together or worn separately. To dress up your summer evening dresses, the range offers chic kimono-style blazers, capes and vests.

As the name would suggest, Zara Basic contains an array of chic wardrobe staples. Whether you are looking for the perfect pair of office trousers or that staple summer tee, Basic offers a variety of colours and cuts. Popular prints for this season in the range include florals and subtle graphic prints and of course the hero for basics – stripes!

Zara Trafaluc spans across the stores second level with modestly priced garments ranging from bohemian-chic pieces to softer, more feminine dresses. Trafaluc accommodates for the hot Brisbane weather with light fabrics, distressed denim and soft colours.

The lower level of the store is shared between Zara Man and Kids. Once again accommodating to our climate, Zara Man features tropical prints and light fabrics. To dress your man for a more formal occasion, there are a wide variety of stylish suits in funky fabrics like velvet and glitter with textured lapel detailing.

The newest addition to Brisbane’s main shopping strip marks an important moment for the Queensland fashion industry. With the recent launch of H&M in Queen Street Mall and the upcoming openings of Uniqlo and GAP in the near future, this is an iconic fashion moment for Brisbane.

As these popular International fast-fashion chains continue to expand into the heart of Brisbane, questions are raised about not only how they will compete against one another but how this expansion will affect Brisbane’s independent boutiques. Will Brisbane consumers be driven back to niche boutiques in the hopes of finding unique styles?

A Cut Above - Royal Hotel Paddington

RoyalHotel05

The best thing about ‘pub grub,’ is not so much the food, but the feeling you get when you eat the food. It’s all about the nostalgia. It reminds you of being young…days with your family at the ‘local’ sharing a meal…the large portions…the familiar interiors…the predictability of comfort food. However, as we grow, travel, taste and experience what the world has to offer we naturally want more. Although we may yearn for the nostalgia of a pub meal, we inherently know that eating the deep fried chips and questionable ‘schnitty,’ in a room with old patterned carpet is not always going to cut it.

Enter, Royal Hotel Paddington! It is setting a new standard for pub food, offering that little touch of nostalgia with all the finesse of a fine dining experience. It’s easy to say, that this ‘pub grub,’ is definitely a cut above the rest! The Hotel itself has been beautifully renovated, boasting the perfect mix of indoor and outdoor dining areas. You can sip Prosecco in The Royal Bar, dine and relax on The Verandah or sneak a peek of Sydney Harbour from the Elephant Bar and Rooftop.

RoyalHotel06

As for the food…

There are still the beloved favourites, chicken schnitzel, burgers and pasta, but they have their own unique twist. Think-waffle fries instead of regular fat fries with your Wagyu Beef burger, delectable blue cheese with your pasta, or a side of carrots flavoured with sherry caramel! There are also selections for those opting to move away from the classics. Imagine-pork belly, atlantic salmon or sashimi salad. Or if you want something easy, there is a wide range of specials. The Salad and Wine Deal from Monday to Friday will keep you satisfied during the week, while the Lamb Shoulder (with all the trimmings) is the perfect meal on a Sunday.

No matter what you choose, be prepared for an experience that is truly a cut above!

Georgia Hobart talks how to break into the US fashion industry

Hobes

Whilst beautiful, glam heels will always have a special place in our heart, there is something about a gorgeous statement flat that can make any outfit effortlessly chic (and you can avoid the foot cramps at the end of the day!). We caught up with Georgia Hobart, the founder and designer of the Australian footwear brand Hobes, renowned for their minimal and ultra-comfortable flats. We spoke to her about her inspirations, her success in America and what she misses about Australia whilst she’s living in New York.

Hobes summer collection if full of bright colours and bold prints. Where have you found your inspiration for these designs?

GH: Hobes is based around the idea of offering chic footwear basics. So introducing new prints, colours and textures seasonally is a really important part of our business, along with keeping our core product in rotation, of course. I tend to pick colours and prints based on current shade trends in lifestyle and fashion. Colour and trend forecasting is something I really enjoy about my work - and releasing new shades which I think will appeal to our audience is an important part of what we do. Inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere - it’s tough to pinpoint one specific area, but certainly my environment and travel constantly inspires me.

There has always been a big stigma towards heels being a go to for any fashion conscious lady. Why do you think stylish flats are becoming so popular?

GH:To be honest I have never been a heels girl, so the trend towards flats and basic wardrobe items suits me to a tee. I think women are feeling more comfortable dressing in a way which not only suits their personal style, but also their lifestyle. And let’s face it- who has the time, patience, or stamina to run around in heels all day. Modern women are not sitting around, they are super busy and having a shoe that is chic, but also complements a busy lifestyle is key. Flats are a fashion and lifestyle choice most women will be very happy to see as very much on trend.

Hobes

How would you best describe the difference between New York and Melbourne fashion?

GH: Fashion is very varied in NY. Anything goes, you can wear anything and try any trend without fear. Australia is a little more conservative in that sense. Shade and shoes wise, New Yorkers are renown for their love of black, and footwear here needs to be a little more hard wearing - the streets in NYC are filthy, very uneven and everyone walks so much. Since I have been here I have really come to understand this - which has resulted in our newer styles incorporating a slightly thicker more durable sole, to combat NY streets.

Australian fashion brands have found major success with the US market of late. Why do you think Aussie brands have found so much success within America?

GH: Brand 'Aussie', and all things Australian, are having a great moment in the US right now, specifically in the fashion capitals of NYC and LA. There are a number of reasons for this in my opinion. Certainly the trend towards wellness and lifestyle has played a part. Internationally Australia is seen as the wellness capital of the world. Our healthy lifestyle down under, access to incredible natural resources, and of course our world famous beaches, has led to Australia becoming a very popular destination for wellness seekers. And as we know there is always a big cross over between fashion, travel and lifestyle. Aussies are very well regarded in NYC - we’re seen as hard workers, easy going and lots of fun. It’s a really nice time to be an Australian here (New Yorkers also really love our accent) I also think the trend towards basic / timeless fashion which Australia does so well has led to many Australian brands experiencing success here.

What are your top tips for any Australian designers wanting to break into the US market?

GH: Persistence and patience! The US is a completely different beast to Australia when it comes to fashion. The market here is so incredibly huge, it really does dwarf Australia. In my experience it took us longer to get a start here than it did in Australia, but then once the ball is rolling things can move quite quickly. It’s also worth remembering that NYC is the fashion capital of the world and the best of the best brands dream of making it here - so it’s very competitive and there are thousands of brands vying for media time and space. So again, persistence and patience is key!

hobes

What do you miss about Australia while you’re living in New York?

GH: Fresh air, the beach, my family, and my cat. And Team Aussie Hobes of course!

What are your top tips to pulling off statement shoes?

GH: I wouldn’t say Hobes are a statement shoe, so I am not sure if I am equipped to answer this! We try to provide the modern day wardrobe with basics, essentials that are incredibly soft, well made and will stand the test of time and trends. Hobes in this sense is more of a lifestyle brand than a fashion brand in my mind.

If you’re looking for the perfect, comfortable pair of flats that are perfect for all seasons be sure to check out the Hobes store, as well as their Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date with all things Hobes!

Top 21 Carrie Bradshaw quotes on men and the single life struggles

CBQuote07

Sex and the City has given us life. A near 20 years later, young and old are still obsessing over the sheer wisdom and blatant truths that were spoken by the greats.

Carrie Bradshaw was of course the leader of the pack and her words still resonate with with women worldwide, which is why we needed to recap on her struggles with dating and men in general.

The single road doesn't come without its challenges but the oh-so fabulous Carrie Bradshaw is about to make it a whole lot easier. The underlying truth is that not a lot has changed when it comes to dating men. The waiting game, the ex, the lack of action, the mixed emotions - it goes without saying that we've all thought like Carrie at least once in our lives.

1. "I need to have sex. It's been too long."

2. "How can I marry a guy who doesn't know which ring is me?"

3. "Men I may not know, but shoes, shoes I know."

4. "I need to feel the weight of a man on top of me."

CBQuote09

5. "I pick the wrong men."

6. "Maybe I've dated men who were wrong for me, but who hasn't."

7. "I often fantasized about running into my ex and his wife ... But in those fantasies, I was running over them with a truck."

8. "You shouldn't have to sacrifice who you are just because somebody else has a problem with it."

9. "A guy doesn't call you for three days and you're ugly?"

10. "Why is it the woman that has to change and never the guy?"

CBQuote04

11. "He has a past, I have a past. Do our pasts really have to have a present?

12. "I need time to decompress, just be alone."

13. "It's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then. To make the walk a little more fun."

14. "I'm someone who is looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love.

15. "I'd like to think that people have more than one soulmate. If you miss one, along comes another. Like cabs."

16. "When men attempt bold gestures, it's generally considered romantic. When women do it, it's often considered desperate or psycho."

17. "We keep dresses we'll never wear again, but we throw away our ex-boyfriends.

18. "This isn't romance, this is bullshit."

CBQuote03

19. Single and fabulous, exclamation point."

20. "Maybe all men are a drug. Sometimes they bring you down and sometimes, like now, they get you so high."

21. "Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with."

Boy stars in Moschino Barbie ad and it's causing controversy

2015 has been filled with numerous gender debates, with Bruce Jenner’s transition and marriage equality being passed almost all over the world. Now, the toy-world seems to be finally catching on to the children gender debate, with the first boy being cast into the Barbie campaign for the designer Moschino Barbie, which has sold out within the first hour of it's release (is it bad that we want one for ourselves?).

Whilst it’s probably one of the most adorable ads that we have seen this year, especially as we can’t handle the cuteness when the boy states that Moschino Barbie is “so fierce”, we do feel intrigued behind Mattel’s decision to finally promote Barbie as a gender neutral brand.

First of all, why has it taken so long to finally include a young boy into the advertisements? Secondly, while we love the campaign, we can’t help but to feel quite torn that the sexuality of the young boy is being so heavily promoted. It has us questioning whether or not he was told to create an absolute fabulous, fierce persona, which in turn might make other young boys feel that they can only act this way to be able to play with barbies.

A photo posted by Jeremy Scott (@itsjeremyscott) on

Yes, we can acknowledge that Barbie is promoting gender equality through this campaign but maybe Mattel should be considering the impact her unattainable image and unrealistic bodyshape has on young girls. Maybe their priorities aren't in order?

Lastly, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for the brand. What are your thoughts? {jcomments on}

7 Crazy beauty trends from 2015

As with fashion, beauty trends come and go and more often than not, we cringe as we look back at the trends we have embraced. You might remember the too dark lip liner from the 90s or the crazy crimped hair from the 80s... These are the top seven crazy beauty trends of 2015 that we will soon look back on and wonder, "what we were thinking"!

1. Thigh brows

Thigh brows were one of the biggest celebrity trends in 2015. This trend encourages curves by embracing the roll of skin that appears at the top of the thigh when wearing high cut swimwear and underwear.

2. Strobing

Strobing was without a doubt the biggest skin trend of 2015. Strobing involves highlighting on the highpoints of your face; down the nose, the cupid's-bow, just below the eye and a little bit on the chin. According to MAC Senior Artist Carol Mackie, makeup artists have been strobing for many years but it became a big trend in 2015.

3. Kylie Jenner lip challenge

Social media feeds were flooded with seriously swollen lip pics earlier in 2015. The crazy trend started as the youngest of the Jenner sisters denied lip enhancements and attributed her full lips to ‘suction cups’. Girls used anything from plastic cups to shot glasses to ‘plump’ their lips, until it was finally revealed Jenner did in fact have cosmetic lip enhancers. This is one trend we are so glad to see gone!

4. Multi-masking

Multi-masking is the trend of applying multiple masks to different areas of the face to target various concerns. While this trend is rather logical, applying too many products to the face at once can seriously overload the skin and cause a reaction.

5. Glass nails

This magical nail trend is inspired by glass and born out Korea. Don’t worry, no actual glass is involved! The trend involves mismatched pieces of cellophane which reflect light and mimic glass.

6. Ombré lips

Ombré lips subtly contours your lips to create a fuller look. Use a darker shade to ‘line’ the lips with a bright pop of colour and illuminate the center of the lips with a light shade.

7. Hair tattoos

Yep, another beauty trend started by the Kardashian-Jenner 'klan'! Everyone’s favourite beauty guru sister, Kylie Jenner sported a metallic hair design and the trend picked up from there. The tattoos are temporary and applied the same way you would temporary skin tattoos.

We can't wait to see what crazy trends 2016 brings!
