Target set to launch its latest designer collaboration

In the latest designer collaboration news, Australian department store Target has announced a collection with French designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

Target announced its partnership with international haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier on November 26, 2015. Officially dubbed Jean Paul Gaultier for Target, the collaboration will see the launch of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing as well as a range of homewares in early 2016.

The collection strives to combine Jean Paul Gaulter’s unique and quirky design ethos into ready-to-wear clothing that resonates with the Australian lifestyle.

“Every time I’ve been to Australia I’ve been impressed by the laid-back, unstuffy confidence that Australians display with their fashion – it resonates with my design philosophy and has such synergy with my own approach to fashion and style,” Mr Gaultier said.

This partnership is the most recent in Target’s designer collaborations, which in the past has included Stella McCartney, Missoni, Dion Lee, Roberto Cavalli, Ksubi and Collette Dinnigan.

Featuring over 100 products with prices starting from merely $10.00, this raises concerns on how designer and retail collaborations are affecting the exclusivity of designer fashion.

Is it a smart move for the future of the fashion industry to make high-end designer names accessible to the everyday woman at such a drastically reduced cost?
