10 ways to shop smarter for a dream wardrobe in 2016

10ShoppingHabits02

You can have the dream wardrobe regardless of your weekly paycheck. This year, why not refine your shopping habits and see just how quickly your Carrie Bradshaw-esk wardrobe comes to fruition.

Don't let the latest fashion trends seduce you
Whether it's the colour, print or style of the season, not every trend looks good on every body shape. It's worth being honest with yourself and not being seduced into buying something that was made for a runway model.

Do the maths
That's right! The value of the 'investment' piece should be decided on how often you wear it and not on the whole price. For example, a sale item with a 30% discount that is only worn once is not a bargain, whereas an item you purchase for $500 and wear 250 times is only $2 per wear. So obviously, that's 100% justifiable.

Shop safely online
Online shopping offers you the opportunity to browse and buy in the comfort of your own home. It's important to keep in mind that there are a number of new services out there which allow you to pay safely on the internet. You can be a savvy, smart and safe shopper by making payments with a PaySafeCard. What's great about this option is that the cards are available in different amounts such as $10, $20, $50 & $100 so you could put a limit on yourself in the case that you are tempted to splurge.

Set a budget
Would you agree that setting a budget sounds so adult-like? Having been inspired by the iconic Carrie Bradshaw who somehow convinced women worldwide that a shoe addiction over food in the fridge was acceptable has left it almost unfashionable to set a budget. But in all honesty - that's absolutely ridiculous. Everyone needs to budget! So before your next shopping spree, why not put aside a certain amount each week into a splurge bank account. You'll be surprised in a few weeks, how much you could have accumulated.

Buy only what you need, not what you want
Floral prints, wide leg pants, the 70s trend, fringing, lace and midi skirts are everywhere! There's no escaping the world-wide wave but there's only so many on-trend pieces that we need before it's simply overkill. That's why it's encouraged to buy wisely and opt for 3-4 key styles each season. Not only will your bank account thank you but so will your wardrobe in about 2 months when those pants are no longer in fashion.

Opt for quality over quantity
With the likes of Zara, H&M and UNIQLO producing on-trend, disposable fashion at ridiculous prices, it's almost hard to control ourselves not buy the one-wash-only, t-shirt. Though the facts are, invest in one quality t-shirt and you'll have it for a lifetime.

Make money from your spending habits
We all know the saying that one woman's trash is another woman's treasure. Well, you know that designer dress that you've never worn that is one size too small? Why not sell it on Ebay or Gumtree and make a little coin so you can buy that investment bag you've been dreaming about.

Shop when you are emotionally stable
Shop only when you are in a good headspace. Don't shop when you are tired, hungry lonely, bored or upset - all of these unstable emotions will lead you to purchasing things unconsciously and you'll select items based on your feelings which means they won't be smart buys.

Don't be easily influenced by the sales assistant
Let's be honest, sales assistants just want a sale. Gone are the days where you could walk into a boutique and trust them for their honest feedback. Nowadays everything looks 'great', even when the customer is clearly trying on something 2 sizes too small. Go with your gut instinct and if you love it then don't question it. If you're really stuck and need some advice, why not ask one of the other customers, or walk away and come back another time with a trusted source who will tell you what you need to know, not what you want to hear.

Don't be deceived by the sale tag
Just because it's on sale doesn't mean that it is acceptable to impulse buy. If you don't love it, it doesn't fit or it's slightly faulty then it is not a bargain! It's only worth it if it represents you and compliments your existing wardrobe. Be strong and make sure it's a purchase you won't regret.
