Miranda Kerr's naked front cover proves nudity is the new norm

This week Australian fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar released its January/February 2016 issue, starring a completely nude Miranda Kerr on the front cover. Wearing nothing but a pair of Louboutin heels, Kerr is posed on a railing exposing her bare body to the camera.

Harper’s Bazaar reveals the cover shot was more spontaneous than planned. Editor-in-Chief Kellie Hush wrote in the issue: "What we captured between outfit changes was a woman who is incredibly comfortable in her own skin."

The cover has been praised, however here at Fashion Weekly we can’t help but voice our concerns. Why is this not a controversial cover and when did nudity become the new norm?

While we are totally for equality and female empowerment, we don’t understand when exposing young generations to full nude images became a socially acceptable thing to do.

Harper’s Bazaar is an Australian magazine sold in grocery stores nationally, where any person of any age has access to it. Not to mention that it is a fashion magazine featuring no fashion on its front cover.

Exposing full nude images like this cover also impacts young girls’ unrealistic body images and amplifies insecurities. This not only leads to an unhealthy lifestyle but can also be the trigger for eating disorders and mental problems.

With the 2015 Victoria’s Secret runway show streaming and the magazine issue reveal in the same week, we wonder if the ex-VS Angel is making sure the world has not forgotten about her. Or is baring all an act of desperation?
