Is a fashion job's paycheck all that glamorous?

paycheck02

Have you ever dreamt of heading to the Big Apple to pursue your fashion career? Many Australian style lovers are intrigued by the prospect of packing up their life and moving to the US; a cutting edge destination that appears to hold endless opportunities.

Now, in the case that you are contemplating booking your flights, you may want to be informed about America's not-so-impressive paycheck. This may change your mind on what appears to be a glamorous position.

A study conducted by Fashionista for the third annual survey received over 4,500 participants’ feedback to offer guidance to this controversial matter, complimented with expert insight from the likes of Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Condé Nast.

The results were organised under each and every fashion industry job description from Design to Editorial to Social Media and those alike.

There is no surprise that the senior and director positions offer staggering salaries. Though you may be stunned at how low the average pay checks are for the entry-level and assisting roles.

Given the relevance to the design industry, it is only fitting to delve into this domain. Assisting and Associate Technical Designers earn between $36,000 to $44,000 and the packages to continue to sky-rocket with Creative Designers and Design Directors earning nearly quadruple the amount.

What does not appear on the survey is internship work, which is an extremely common occurrence within the fashion industry. Many emerging designers, fashion lovers, creatives and those alike started behind the scenes with minimum experience and have now worked up the ladder to hold management positions at the most renowned fashion hubs.

Ultimately, everyone has to start somewhere. Those coffee runs are not in-vain lovelies, as they are leading you down the path of that well deserved pay-check!

The good news is that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. There are infinite opportunities, so go chase your dreams and make them become a reality!
