Ten of the best hacks for taking an amazing selfie

SelfieTip02

Personally, I hate taking selfies but they are no longer avoidable.

Last Sunday I was holed up in bed, stuffing my face and binging on Supernatural when my phone flashed with a Snapchat notification - a selfie from my on-again-off-again fling asking what I'm doing... Now I'm suppose to send photos sans makeup and my hair a mess, WHAT!?

Snapchat and selfies are simply part of the modern dating world. This means it's time to seriously step up that selfie game!

These tips will help you achieve that sexy I'm-totally-just-chilling-and-look-this-good-naturally selfie.

1. The duck face is so 2015!

That's right ladies, the 'cheeks sucked in and lips puckered' look is no longer a thing. The new perfect pout is the smouldering fish gape.

2. Do the hair toss & lip bite

Right before taking your selfie, flip your head over and back for sexy locks that will frame your face perfectly and lightly bite your lip for a plump flush of colour.

3. Lighting is everything

There is a reason that everytime a woman looks good people comment that she looks 'glowing', 'radiant' or 'lit from within'. The right lighting that highlights your face and eliminates shadows is essential for taking a flattering photo.

4. Check your surroundings

The trick to a perfect selfie is not to let anyone know how much effort you put into creating the snap! Make sure to check the background of your photos for any embarrassing clues.

5. Consider the angle

Have you ever experienced that moment when you open your front camera by accident and get the shock of your life as you're greeted by what looks like your face with a few additional chins? The most flattering photos are taken from a slightly higher angle than your head.

6. The rule of thirds

Drawing on professional photography compositions, don't put yourself dead centre in the photo but rather to the left or the right of the shot.

7. Elevate your eyes

Avoid looking sleepy/bored and make your eyes look bigger and brighter by setting your gaze at the lens or slightly above it rather than staring at yourself in the screen.

8. Strike a pose

Keep snapping and take a few photos, testing out different angles to ensure you end up with something you like.

9. It's all in the final touches

Avoid those overly obvious Instagram filters and instead edit the brightness and contrast of your selfie with easy editing apps like VSCO Cam or Snapseed.

10. Finally, have fun with it!
