Instagram has proven to be an incredibly powerful tool for businesses, bloggers and personalities alike and now you too can build a following and create your own brand.
It might seem like a simple task, but growing your account can be deceptively daunting. Here we've put together some tips to pull you out of the darkness and show you exactly how to develop your own Instagram page – Instafamous here we come!
Create your signature aesthetic
Instagram is all about aesthetics. There is nothing more enticing to a potential follower than a beautiful and consistent feed. Find your signature look and stick with it so your followers know exactly what to expect.
Follow pages you aspire to emulate
Whether you're posting about last months mountain hike or today's #ootd, inspiration is key. Follow pages that post similar content to your own and take a leaf out of their book and try to put your own spin on some of your favourite pics.
Tell your friends
The word social is paramount in social media. There's no better way to gain followers than by getting your girlfriends on board and telling them to spread the word.
Interact with other users
One of the easiest ways to draw attention to your account is by getting involved online. Like and comment on your followers pictures as much as you can. Be personable and friendly, a smile (or in this case a smiling emoji) can get you further than you think.
Post regular, consistent content
Nothing will cause your follower count to fall quicker than forgetting to post for a few weeks. Be sure to post regularly (every day if possible but no less than once a week) and remember to stick to your signature style.
Use hashtags (wisely)
Hashtags are a wonderful thing. They enable you to connect with like minded people all over the world just with the touch of a button. But beware, too many hashtags are a big no no on Instagram so choose wisely – no more than 5 if possible.
Tag away
Did you post a picture of you lunch at your favourite cafe? Tag the location! Did you snap a shot of your latest look? Tag the designers/brands! Are you meeting up with a friend? Tag them! It's as easy as that.
Link to your other social media
If you have a website or blog for your business, make sure you have a link to your Instagram page on your site. Also, post direct links to your other social media profiles to attract as many additional followers as possible, you'll be surprised how many notifications you get!
Collaborate
Keep your eyes peeled for similar, developing accounts in your feed and feel free to hit them up for some joint work. You'll have a tonne of fun and double your followers in the process.
Engage your followers
People love to feel involved, so why not let them? Ask your followers questions through your posts and actively respond to their feedback. As you start to grow you my even be able to throw in competitions and giveaways, and as we all know, people love free stuff!
