You can't miss Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists exhibition

If we ever needed an excuse to book a flight to Melbourne, the Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists exhibition is definitely justifiable!

The National Gallery of Victoria, responsible for the brilliant 200 Years of Australian Fashion exhibition, has just announced their first world-exclusive collaboration with the notorious designer duo, titled Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists.

Known for their rebellious and avant-garde approach to fashion, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have been real game changers within the fashion industry. From their elaborate fashion shows to their impeccable designs, often exploring the contrast of romance and violence; exuberance and control, and classicism and rebellion, merges the line of art and fashion.

The exhibition will explore the Dutch duo's vibrant wearable art from their 22 years within the fashion industry, including 35 haute couture pieces; their earlier works, as well as “Dolls” which features the designer's most iconic looks on antique doll replicas.

“We are extremely excited to be working in collaboration with the National Gallery of Victoria on this exhibition and highlighting the craftsmanship involved in creating our wearable art. It is an honour for us to bring our designs to the Southern Hemisphere,” said the duo.

Tony Ellwood, Director for The National Gallery of Victoria, has stated that the exhibition will be an entertaining insight into the designer's intricate work.

"Viktor&Rolf stretches the definition of both fashion and art. Their boundary-pushing designs challenge the way fashion is developed, presented and disseminated with masterful craftsmanship, intellectual rigour and an ironic sense of humour. This exhibition will be a rare opportunity to experience the unconventional creativity and technical brilliance of this innovative Dutch duo," said Ellwood.

The Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists is just one of the exciting exhibitions set to grace The National Gallery of Victoria later this year, with the David Hockney exhibition showcasing over 700 works of the renowned Yorkshire artist, and the John Olsen: The You Beaut Country, which presents the rigorous portfolio of Australian artist, John Olsen.
