MBFWA Day 1 | Toni Maticevski runway recap

It's officially that time of year! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) kicked off on Sunday with the immaculate opening show of Toni Maticevski's Resort 17 Collection, and what a show it was!

The Melbourne-born designer, who is this year's Mercedes-Benz Presents designer for MBFWA, featured looks that were a whole lot more risqué than his usual romantic designs.

The collection showcased the voluminous skirts and tiny waists which Maticevski has become renowned for, with off-the-shoulder designs, fitted cigarette trousers and pencil skirts being dominate looks. The key colours of the collection included a moody cream, onyx and metallic gold, with pops of muted pastel blue and buttery yellow.

Maticevski proved that the BDSM influence on fashion isn't going away anytime soon. The runway featured a sinister atmosphere reminiscent of Alexander McQueen, complete with models in unnaturally high heels, intricate gag balls, chokers and crystal Ryan Storer handcuffs.

The models teetered across the marble runway to the sultry sounds of Justin Beiber and Zayn Malik; while proving they were the definition of cool with on trend oval shades.

The launch show featured a star-studded front row containing Australia's elite celebrities, including Jennifer Hawkins, Delta Goodrem and Lindy Klim, who came together to ring in the 21st Anniversary of MBFWA.

Stay tuned for all things MBFWA over the coming week!
