Tommy Hilfiger Spring 16 has major Cuban influences

Cuban influences are set to be huge this Spring/Summer, and they have definitely been a major influencer for the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 16 collection titled, Island Hopping, which launched at New York Fashion Week on Monday.

The designs, inspired by the bright colours of the Caribbean, turquoise waters of Jamaica and the sandy beaches of Mustique Island, were made for relaxation and embrace the freedom that fashion can give for self-expression.

Silhouettes within the collection are relaxed, floaty and hold 1970’s influences. Bright, tropical flora and fauna inspired by textile artist Josef Frank are presented on billowing dresses, with the inclusion of vibrant stripes and tropical patchworks adding contrast to the pieces. An element of craftiness is included within the designs with beaded tapes trimming faded denim jackets and chinos, with traditional cricket sweaters and polos being made from crochet and netted mesh.

The collection creates a sense of wanderlust and has us pining for a tropical island getaway this summer.
