Ariana Grande is one of the most exciting talents of the pop music industry right now. She has effortlessly evolved from the awkward Nickelodeon star into a dignified pop star who continues to slay your existence.
That being said, there is an exception ... her last single “Focus” which was an absolute mess that ferociously flopped - and to be honest I just want to forget that it actually exists.
After the massive success of her sophomore album “My Everything” she has altered her sound for her upcoming third studio album and unleashed the lead single of the same name.
“Dangerous Woman” is an empowerment pop anthem that has her coming for the throne with a big hook that reminds you that her vocals are stronger than most of your faves combined. The track has a reggae tinged big band sound that adds a sexy edge making this the most confident we have ever heard her be.
The main difference between “Yours Truly” and “My Everything” was that the debut had a big band, contemporary pop sound while the sophomore record had a modern sexy pop feel and the coherency between the two wasn’t there. However this song has combined those two elements together and finally stamps “this is who I am” on her brand and sound.
From the first listen you will be yelling “slay”, “Yasss queen” and unleashing your inner diva while holding onto your weave as she hits that high note before the final hook. This is everything and more I wanted/needed from this song and proves to her critics that she isn’t going anywhere. It’s a mature sound and image that will have her receiving more comparisons to Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. So I’m just going to say it, “Dangerous Woman” may just be one of the best pop songs of 2016.
*Side note* – She has just debuted another new song during her stint on SNL called “Be Alright” and the dance-hall track will have you further impressed and I just need a studio version ASAP.
